The Spacecast Is Evolving

The Spacecast.
That would be our site's podcast and it's been a damn successful endeavour. Originally hosted by i3t and Plasmacaster, later episodes saw The Analyst also enter the audio realm, and eventually take over the reigns as co-host along with i3t.
Now however? It's time for evolution.
That's going to mean changes to the show as we evolve it to face a new, bright, future. One change, or evolution if you will, is that we're going to start having guests from a wide variety of places on the show. We've already got a couple recorded and lined up for a Spacecast in June!
Another is the now fortnightly schedule to allow us to put more prep time into each show and to make sure that each show is of the quality you've come to expect and you keep coming back for!
Along with this we're also poised to launch the Wrestle UK Podcast, The Spacecast's monthly wrestling special, so we'll have 3 new shows a month on the main feed!
So as we evolve we want to take the time here and now to thank each and every one of you for listening! We're currently at well over 2,500 average listeners, with some episodes spiking to double that, and we are continuing to grow each and every week.
So we think now is the time for evolution and we hope you are all along with us on the ride!

akaPending - Saint George & A Dragon?
i3t here introducing a special new writer to the site we like to call akaPending! Seeing as I covered Saint Paddy she's decided to cover good ol' Saint George in honour of it being his day this week! Enjoy!
I love variations on a theme. Call it conscientious coherence or just plain lack of inspiration, either way, I’m going to continue on the topic of our venerable patron saints. The first one has been done for you.... taking a sneak peek at i3t’s summation of the most popular of the British Isles’ saints: good old Paddy, I thought I’d be ever the alternative and opt for good ol’ St George. The once dragon fighter knight, now more racist symbol, just what is the history behind Geo and how has his patronage and its associations changed in more recent times?
A lot of us probably don’t even know when St George’s Day is. You do now: the 23rd of April. Eerily coinciding with the birth (and possibly death) day of one of our other great founding fathers (I’m starting to sound a bit American here....) Bill Shakespeare. Even more coincidentally, my birthday. I clearly have the literary gene ;)
So, what are the origins of George? What did he do, besides the ever reliable tales of dragon-slaying, that made us hold him so dear?
Well, it’s doubtful that he slayed/ slew (take your pick) any dragons. Crocodiles perhaps and I suppose for some, that’s close enough. It would appear that, according to legend, villagers in Greece were held to ransom of their waterhole by a particularly nasty snapper and thought there to be no better way to appease the tyrant than offering lambs and sneaking water while the animal ate. What do you do if you have no lambs? Why, offer a maiden, of course. Passing the village during a time of particular lamb famine, George witnessed the abhorrent practice and swept the maiden away to safety. Not quite wrestling a mythical, fire-eating monster to a grizzly death but noteworthy all the same.
So we have: he’s Greek. He kills crocs.
He was, as all patrons, devoutly pious. So much so, that when he was asked to denounce Christianity publicly in favour of ‘God’s’ Greco-Roman pagan counterparts, he refused and was flagellated to the point of unconsciousness and resuscitated a whopping 3 times. Upon further refusal, not to be embarrassed, the emperor decided to have George beheaded and it is for this that he gained his martyrdom.
He doesn’t even have the honour of his own vexellogical derivation (I never thought I’d write that sentence) He stole the striking ‘blood on purity’ design from that other revered Christian saint, St Ambrose.
These days however, it’s often considered a symbol of shrouded racism to fly the St George (St Ambrose) flag. We picture ‘Brits abroad’, flannel wearing, bulldog dragging lager louts who don’t know the meaning of a Bank Holiday as it’s negated by the fact that every day is a holiday but bang on about how St George’s Day should be one any way.
Is this a fair consequence for our patron saint? Well, he didn’t kill any dragons and nicks people’s flags so the jury’s out.

Firstly then we'd like to welcome Nathan Adler, who contributed this article to our World War Free section, and dansreallycool (find him on Twitter @dansreallycool), who is contributing to our newly reinstated ComicsCulture section. We've also got a couple more writers lined up so what that means dear Spacefans is that we'll have more content than ever for you to enjoy and take our site up to the next level. We really are the little site that could aren't we? You better believe it!
And with that in mind we'd also like to finally announce, and launch, one of the reasons that i3t has been a bit lapsed in his writings of late.
That launch is www.liveukwrestling.com!
Our Wrestling Calendar, which can also still be found in its old home in our Wrestling Revolution section, has been expanded. In fact it's been expanded so much we've given it a brand spanking new url. It now contains live events from over 25 of the leading Wrestling Promotions from around the UK! So if you want to see some live wrestling, and at an independent level we really truly do have the best in the world, why not go on the site and see what's coming up soon!
You can find fliers, match cards, ticket details and much more about events from all over this fine Great Britain of ours.
With British Wrestling poised to return to National TV screens for the first time in over two decades what better time than now to re-enter and re-engage your love of the squared circle?!
It's all exciting times here at bewarethespaceman.com!
Interested in our future plans? Eager to contribute to the site? Do you run a Wrestling promotion we've neglected on our calendar? The email address for all this and much, much more is This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. !

So every Wednesday, when we release our new shows, click the Spacecast button and be taken to the latest shows!
Failing that why not find us on Stitcher Smart Radio?
We're also on iTunes too! Click below and subscribe on your iOS device to NEVER miss an episode ever again!
