Wrestlings Clowns Funk is on a Role (Wrestling Analyst Spring 7 of 9)
![]()
Wrestling is often compared to the circus. With that in mind this week we look at Wrestling's currant crop of clowns.
These wrestlers play an important role in the show. No they’re probably not the ones in the main event or wrestling for the titles. But if wrestling was all serious wouldn’t it get a little.. well boring?
Funkasaurus
“LADIES AND GENTLEMAN, PLEASE WELCOME THE ONLY LIVING, BREATHING, ROMPING, STOMPING FUNKASAURUS IN CAPTIVITY, MR. BRODUS CLAY”
We all know what happens next. Funkasaurus enters like Austin Powers. Like Rikishi and flash funk before him out comes the dancing monster. Cleans up his opponent and then dances in the middle of the ring.
It's light-hearted comedy and often helps the flow of an otherwise overly serious show. Sometimes we're not bothered about the authority figure or the personal vendetta. We just want to see Brodus dance.
Santino Marella
Santino Marella is largely used in the same role. Comedy that is not dancing though he has dabbled with that too. The proof of how good Santino is in his role came at this years elimination chamber PPV. Here the whole arena were chanting for Santino during the Smackdown Elimination Chamber match.
Eric Young
A lot of people like Young's goofy persona. Described as a take on WWE's Eugene gimmick but not quite as blatant. I would consider him similar to Santino. Much like Santino he has been rewarded in the form of the TV title for a while and recently the Knockout tag Belt.

Special mention goes to William Regal who has stated that his wrestling character takes from British great Tommy Cooper and to Ron Simmons for giving us that word.... Damm!
