Mongoose : Elephant In The Room

I was at Sheffield Film and Comic Con. Silent, yes. Dormant, mostly.
But I was there. I was listening.

I heard a woman talk about why Cosplay.. She talked through most of the day and the occasional phrase echoed across to me barely audible through the building…  Was It was about fitting in? …  Was it about making friends? … Or is there an elephant in the room here.

Are we, fully grown adults,… Incapable of living in the real world?!

I class the Analyst in this category. Always egger to jump into the next Arrow, the next Doctor Who or whatever else. Looking around the connection I suspect that most of us “adults” in that building were the same.  We watch, we talk and we analyse right?

““Adults…struggle Desperately with fiction, demanding constantly that it conform to the rules of everyday life. Adults foolishly demand to know how Superman can possibly fly, or how Batman can possibly run a multibillion-dollar business empire during the day and fight crime at night, when the answer is obvious even to the smallest child: because it’s not real.””

Supergods: What Masked Vigilantes, Miraculous Mutants, and a Sun God from Smallville Can Teach Us about Being Human

Perhaps we enjoy blurring that line. I can see why a world with ‘super heroes’ would be more comfortable than the world we have.

But what of the fantasy programs specifically tailored for adults. What about the Game of Thrones? A world that takes the Dragons, Giant’s and Dwarfs of Tolkien and mixes it with rape, torture, incest, and bent politics.

Thrones is perhaps humanities truest reflection.

Just A Mongoose posing the questions.

I will be in touch soon Spaceman.
